LCD TV Rating

Is the refresh rate for an lcd tv very important?

I believe the higher the better, especially for football. Do I need one that is higher than 50hz?

  1. 50Hz is ok if you're not bothered by flicker; a higher rate will reduce flicker. Bear in mind that movies in theaters run at 24 frames per second (fps) and aren't too annoying. A higher rate shouldn't improve sports viewing. If in doubt, try a higher rate. What've you got to lose?
  2. Yes, you'll be a lot happier with any fast action scenes, especially football (U.S. or other versions). A ball passed or kicked is very difficult to follow across the screen with the low 50 or 60 Hz refresh rate. It's far better with 100/120 Hz, although still not perfect.
  3. I would say yes, the refresh rate makes the picture less blurry. I would suggest a refresh rate of 100hz or higher if you intent to watch sports or action movies.
