What is a good contrast ratio for an lcd tv?
I was looking to buy a couple of bedroom lcd's and was looking at a 23" Samsung (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-and-plasma/samsung-ln-s2351w-23/4507-6482_7-31791672.html?tag=sub), until I found this 26" Westinghouse. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?catg=535&item=368476&prDeTab=2&pCatg=5883#A The only difference I could find was the contrast ratio; the Samsung was 3000:1 and the Westinghouse was 800:1. Is contrast ratio a big deal, and is 800:1 fair, or should I get the samsung?

- At least 1,000:1 ~ DLP TVs go to 10,000:1 though That refers to the dynamic range. The greatest difference between black, white and all the in between shades of gray and color.
- I would go for the samsung man. 3000.1 is a very good contrast, contrast basically means how black, black is on the screen. 800.1 really isnt all that impressive
- GET THE SAMSUNG.....you can't get parts for the Westinghouse unit....so then you throw it in the trash. Samsung has parts, support, techs, engineers, several distribution warehouses....you can't beat a well - supported brand.
