The picture is not clear on my new 37" LCD Olevia TV. Is it because Im connecting basic cable thru my old VCR?
I purchased the $14 basic cable (non-digital) through my provider and my brand new LCD TV does not have a cable input so I have to connect to cable using my 10 year old VCR. Could that be the reason why the picture is not as crisp as I had hoped for? Do I need digital cable to use a flat panel TV? If I need a new DVD or VCR player to connect to the TV for a better picture, which brand/model would be the least expensive one I could get away with? I'm regretting not purchasing the LG LCD TV, but this Olevia got excellent reviews and I purchased it through an online store so I'm not able to return it. Please help! Thank you.

- Its because you are using basic analog cable! upgrade to digital and look at the improvement. you also may want to look at a surround sound system to get maximum listening pleasure as well.
- bypass the VCr, put cable direct to Tv and then come out of cable to VCR and then connect VCR to Tv, that way you get best pic on both and you can still record from cable if you really need to !...have fun !
- If your TV has no coax connector to hook the in-coming cable to, how is the VCR connected to the TV to give you the picture ? I can't imagine a new flat panel LCD TV without a place to connect your coax to. Look for a round connector that's threaded which has " cable-in " printed above it or below it. That's where the coax cable wire hooks on. Also, some newer TVs have those connections on one end of the TV. I would upgrade to digital cable. I think you will be much happier with the clarity.
- if the vcr is1o year old then u should get a new vcr
- Having the cable going through the VCR is not helping but doing so will only get you around 10-15% signal quality lost. The most probable cause is that you're looking at an analog signal on a digital hi-res TV and strangely enough, the image is ugly because your TV is too good for the signal so it shows you all the imperfections of the analog signal. What's more, the analog signal is not always the same quality throughout a sector. I just moved and found out that the image quality was much better at my new place because the spliter in my sector had less people hooked to it. So you might just have to upgrade to a digital signal which you need to look at your cable service provider (you need a decoder) or get a dish!
