Which brand of LCD televisions is the best/lasts the longest?
Hey everyone, I'm looking for customer reviews and maybe some helpful websites if you have any. I want to buy a 40" or 42" LCD television, and need your opinions about which brand is the best and WHY. Thanks for your help!

- Sony and LG Read CNET.com http://reviews.cnet.com/televisions/
- LG or Sony
- I can't give you a definitive answer. My experience with TVs is that Sony have never let me down.
- there is no 'best' brand of lcd tvs however, sony is an international brand, plus it also proves to be quite reliable in my opinion. however, if you want quality, go for OLCD, not LCD the O in OCLD stands for organic, which makes the television much mroe crystal clear, and higher definition. however they are more expensive. i am going to assume you have a limitless budget.
- samsung and Lg. check out bestbuy.com and stuff for reviews. samsung are investing alot into newer technology and has beed a reliable brand for years. my 19 inch samsung tv from bosnia has 10 years on it and still going. LG is a new brand and wants to make a good impression, so they are doing good.
- SONY - Always been the best at all they do.
- I personally like Samsung. We have two LCD ones in our house and one that is a 42", we have had for almost five years with no problems at all. Also the other tv is a 50" which we've had just under a year and have had no problems.
- The best web site for reviews is cnet.com. Definitely start their. They don't cover every model out there, but they are about as good as it gets. Rival sites exist, but really don't have the respect that the cnet review team does. Consumer Reports is also good. But of course they charge you money. So that's always a pain. But they do a respectable job for sure. At the size you're looking at, please consider Plasma. You don't have to go there, but please at least consider it. It will deliver you a better image quality in TVs of that size. LCDs, all types, suffer from motion blur issues (on fast motion). They compensate for this with 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rate features. This helps a lot for sure, but its not 100%. And it costs extra. CCFL LCDs (most of them) have less vivid colors, sometimes grey-ish blacks, and so-so contrast. This is compensated for with the new LED LCD. The LED source helps improve this in a huge way. But it is the most premium feature you can buy for an LCD, so it costs a lot of money. Plasma is near instantaneous in its refresh rate. It plays back motion flawlessly. And that's right out of the box, no extra features. Plasma delivers vivid colors, true blacks, and deep contrast. Again, inherent to the technology, nothing extra to pay for. Don't get caught in all the myths around Plasma. The good brands (see below) don't suffer from burn-in. Plasmas do not have short life spans. Plasmas don't need to be recharged (I still don't know why some people think that one). And modern Plasmas can be energy star certified, so are not energy hogs. If you do go LCD in the size you're looking at Samsung and Sony are your top choices. Both brands constantly fight each other to be top dog. They both have amazing image processors, strong reliability, and strong reputations. At 40"+ in Samsung I"d look at a Series 6 model (or higher). That will give you 1080p and 120Hz. In Sony I'd look at a V series or W series (again 1080p/120Hz) for those sizes. But Sharp, LG, and Toshiba are also worthy considerations. They all make some great sets in the size you're looking at. Just get appropriate specs from them (1080p and either 120Hz or 240Hz). If you do go Plasma, look at Panasonic first and foremost. They are your outright go to option. They are the world leaders in the technology. I really can't see any reason to not go with them. They make great panels, they are reliable, they look great, and they even offer extra anti-image retention features above and beyond advances in the technology. If you really don't want to do Panasonic then look to either Samsung (yes they make Plasmas too) or LG.
- The brands considered the best for LCD are Samsung, Sony, LG, Sharp, and Toshiba. Panasonic and Mitsubishi are pretty good as well. JVC, Phillips, Magnavox, Emerson, Sylvania, and Sansui are all right but not great. (All these brands have been in the television business for decades, with the "best" ones using primarily high-quality non-outsourced parts) Brands I would specifically avoid include Apex, Viore, Vizio, ILO, Durabrand, and Dynex.
