What are the best specs for an LCD TV?

I am trying to buy a new LCD TV and want to know what the best specs are in the following categories so I have something to compare to: Viewing Angle: Refresh Rate: Compression Ratio:

1. Viewing Angle - don't trust any paper specs, they end to be mathematical theoretical values, not real world. Go into a store and use your eyes. 160 - 178 degrees is fairly common though. DLP is the worst in general. LCD is in between. Plasma is best. Refresh Rate - 60Hz is base. 120Hz or 240Hz are the upgraded specs. 240Hz isn't necessarily double the quality of 120Hz. Some TVs are 5 ms response time with 120Hz and then the sibling 240Hz TV is a poor 8ms response time. So its not quite apples to apples, and not fair to say 240Hz is always double the quality of 120Hz. It depends on the TV range you're looking at. Plasma will advertise 480Hz or 600Hz, but its more marketing than anything to do with the TV. Plasma has a near instantaneous response time (0.001ms), its a completely different technology, so don't think those Hz numbers for Plasma mean the same thing as LCD. Compression Ratio: never heard of this. Are you asking about Contrast maybe? There is no standard measure system for contrast. Companies can measure and report it as they see fit. So its okay when comparing two sets of the same brand, but really more or less useless to compare different brands. Typically CRT/tube, DLP are about the same and near the top. Plasma is at the very top. LED LCD is a bit better than CRT/DLP, but not quite Plasma. CCFL LCD is weakest. TV size matters though. You don't see the advantages of premium features like 1080p, 120Hz, LED LCD, or Plasma, until you get into bigger TVs. Typically you need to break 40", and more so 50" to really get those advantages. So if you're looking at 37" or smaller, you can get away with a simple CCFL 720p 60Hz LCD. At 37" I might get 1080p 120Hz, depending on the uses of the TV, but certainly 32" or below, I'll go with a basic set. You won't get much bang for the buck on high end features on smaller sets.

Due to Difference Measurement Standard from difference TV manufactures. is difficulty to compare TV Specifications based on the " PAPER ". if you are not very good or total understand the Technical issue, is MAY become " miss conducts ".is mean Higher Specification MAY not is the BEST . some TV maker Specifications totally Confusion Consumer . * Refresh Rate is Standard to all TV maker .* many other RATIO is not * View Angle could be Ref to Normal pictures.but come to Wide Zoom is total difference * Response Time too many Standard * ie . Those Mini Hi Fi on the market , Power Out Put " claim " 500 W . if Ref to World Audio Standard is only less than 10 W RMS. ie . LG LCD TV in USA market Response Time " claim " 2.4 ms . the very SAME model sold in Asia , there " claim " 5 ms. // Those LG LCD TV main for USA specs 2.4 ms = Samsung 5 ms ( G to G Standard ). Make it Easy for you to Select an LED TV. 1 ) Only go for Worldwide TV brand . Sony.Samsung.LG.Sharp.Panasonic.Toshiba. the above SIX brand Manufactures TV by OWN ,from End to End , use Quality Parts and own ( or JV ) made LCD Display Panel , select only GRADE A type. ( if you are from Electronics manufactures , you able to understand PARTS GRADE ). Circuit Design back up by 40 + year experienced R & D team . products sold worldwide. Quality is very important to them, and is able to control ( all don by own ) .Fault Rate set as 1.5 % in 6- 8 years. ( by them ) we take as less than 3 % in 5 years. is mean Quality / Reliable TV. 2 ) Select model between you BUDGET ? there made Entry Lever / Mid End / Hi End model from the same screen size . 19-37 inc and Standard 40-52 inc model , by them is about the same pictures Quality .no signification difference if side by sid compare by same movies. better go for 1080 P 120 HZ model. * you may not get any difference to you eye in such screen size, but usually maker make 1080 P model better display Quality. due to better designs Video Circuit. and paid just a litter more. Panasonic very good for 32 inc model. Big Screen LCD TV , 40-65 inc Hi End model , Samsung / Sony / Sharp always better than other in Pictures Quality. all are Excellence ! Panasonic is GREAT for this Range . Toshiba / LG is GOOD. Never " TOUCH " those Local in house brand. there are not manufactures . all TV by small TV maker in China . use low Quality Parts. Low Quality LCD display Panel .some model may use LG or Sony-Samsung JV made Panel, because of PRICES, select only GRADE B type. TV sold only one countries, to them PRICES is important not Quality.and Quality is beyond control ( is not design or manufactures also parts source ,not by own ).Fault Rate from " BUYER BRAND " is around 35 % in 4 years. need to change power supply in 2 years. 20 % buyer brand TV may need to replace LCD Display panel not more than 3 years.beware of this.
