LCD TV Rating

Buying a LCD TV. What Hz rating should I get?

60, 120, or 240? Each step up seems to add a considerable amount to the price. I'm not so in to TV that I have to have the very best. But I do want a very good TV. The lighting in the room is somewhat low, if that is a consideration. Also, what's a good brand as far as quality and reliability? I'm thinking Samsung or Sony.

  1. Well, I would go with 60..Since I have looked at them all, and I do not see the difference for the extra money. It can even mess up some gaming and movies, which to my surprise, looked better with 60 cycle operation. By the way, why LCD? You will get a blurr on fast moving objects, and a poor viewing angle. Plasma is very fast response, bright, and no more burn in issues on later models. (Orbiting technology.) Plus a 170 degree or better..viewing angle.!
  2. samsung is best because it has good plasma hz rating
  3. Auto Motion Plus 120Hz better This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the ‘middle' image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next.
  4. If it's hz that you're worried about, why not consider a Plasma TV? Plasma TV's have 600hz refresh rates and don't cost a fortune like LCD TVs do! Plasma's also have .001ms response times making them the best at fast motion content like sports, movies and gaming! Plasma's have unbeatable motion sharpness! If you're worried about Plasma's past problems...don't! They no longer suffer from burn-in thanks to new technologies like better gases, pixel orbiting and screen savers. They also do not use large amounts of energy! Newer Plasma's are the most energy efficient ever! Panasonic's 42" 1080p(TC-P42U1) model Plasma TV uses about 142w of power! Equal to or less then some 42" LCD TV's! And most Plasma's now have anti-reflective coatings on the screen to reduce glare! And last as long as LCD's in terms of contrast(100,000hrs)! As for reliable brands...Panasonic! They're the most reliable i've ever seen! Samsung and Pioneer are also very good brands of Plasma! 5. Since you say you don't need the very best I would just go for a 60hz. I have a 60hz LCD that I bought a couple of years ago and it is fine. You will only get a minor improvement by getting more hz so I think it is better to get something cheaper. I have a 52" LCD and I love it. It is still working great a couple years later and I see no reason to upgrade right now. Just make sure you get a big enough TV. I was debating between 46" and 52". Now I'm so glad that I got 52", it is totally worth the extra money. Pretty much nobody regrets buying a larger one.
