What should I do with a broken Samsung LCD TV?

I have a 40 in. Samsung LCD TV that has a blank picture but sound works. It broke 3 weeks after the 2 year maintenance plan expired :( . I'm afraid this will cost $300-$400 to fix.. I hate to throw something away that visually(outside/not picture) is in great condition and might be fixable. Any suggestions?

  1. People don't realize the things they can do with broken TV's. I know some people who make fish tanks, do things with the wires, and I even saw one guy who made a calculator with a recycled TV. I personaly, have no idea what to do with it. But take it apart and see if you can find something you can use! However, if you want to keep it as a TV and see if someone can fix it, ask your local tec-wiz or look up for some people in the phone book. If you look hard, you'll find someone who will be able fo fix it.
  2. You could get a estimate for the repair cost from a technician it may be a minor fault and an inspection would not cost much. You could contact Samsung explain that you are disappointed that an expensive tv only lasted 2 years they may help.
  3. You can try to sell it on craigslist with the condition clearly indicated. Some repair shops buy broken tvs to try to fix or salvage the parts. At least you'd get something. And I think it couldn't hurt to call Samsung and complain if the tv just quit on it's own. If it fell or someone did something to it, then it's just a possible sale for salvage.
