LCD TV Rating

Is there any real difference between 120 & 240 Hz refresh rate on LCD TV?

I am about ready to purchase a new TV and was wondering if there is any real difference? I looked at both and don't really notice any difference in the way the picture looked. Thanks in advance.

  1. Yes we have a 120 Hz TV and it's fast but a 240 Hz will be faster by showing more detail like sports or a movie.
  2. yea, the difference is 120Hz.
  3. No, there isn't. That refresh rate is to combat motion blur, and CNET did a test recently and said they haven't seen any significant blur even in the latest 60hz LCD's. Going to 120hz gives you slightly clearer text when it's scrolling across the screen (like sports scores or stock prices that scroll at the bottom of the screen), but that's about it. It's mostly marketing hype, so avoid it and go with a good quality brand at 120hz or even 60hz if you're on a tight budget. No, you won't notice a difference in the way the picture looks.
  4. A TV's hz is mostly for movies! A lot of answerer's on this website think that 120hz and 240hz TV's are going to cure problems with motion blurring! They are mistaken and misinformed! Hz on it's own cannot cure motion blurring! In order to eliminate motion blurring, a TV must have a fast pixel response time! LCD's fastest is 2ms...while Plasma's are the fastest with .001ms! TV's with 60hz have problems with movies because of the fact that all film based movies are recorded at 24fps(frames per second)! This frame rate does not divide evenly into a TV's 60hz(2.5x) and forces the TV to repeat several frames to compensate. This repeating of frames causes motion 'juttering' during fast motion! Giving rise to TV's with hz that can easily divide into the 24fps films! Hence TV hz rates of 120hz(5x) and 240hz(10x) for LCD and 480hz(20x) and 600hz(25x) for Plasmas! The faster the hz, the smoother the picture quality will be with fast motion films! As you can see, Plasma's are the best at fast motion content like sports, movies & gaming because their pixel response times are 2,000 times faster then LCD and their refresh rates are 2 or more times faster then LCD's!
