HP Pavilion dv5000 Laptop to Samsung LCD TV Connection?

am trying to connect my hp pavilion dv5000 laptop with my samsung lcd tv 850 series. I got the vga to dvi adapter and dvi to hdmi cable connected but my TV still displays “no signal”. what do I need to do to make it work? have tried the fn +f4 and lower resolution. am i missing anything?

1. the problem is you have to go to your control panel click on display click on settings and add or duplicate your computer screen. it's pretty easy to do once you get there. good luck!
