LCD TV Rating

Other then features, what do you look for when buying an LCD TV?

Most of the latest brands carry similar and comparative features. But what else do you look for? What does quality mean to you? Example: 2 LCD TVs. Olevia and Sony. Both have the same contrast ratio, both have 8ms refresh rates, etc. What makes the Sony better? What makes it last longer?

  1. Sony has a better reputation and great quality. The appearance of the tv also makes a difference. But the warranty makes a big difference to me, who will honour their warranty for the most and the longest time frame. The way I see it is, if they are not confident about their own product enough to offer a long warranty then why should I be. Some companies offer 3 months and others 5 years, I would take the 5 year one because they feel that their product is good enough to last the 5 years and are willing to put their money where their mouth is. Where as a 3 month warranty tells me they are only willing to stand behind their product for the minimum requirement that most electronic companies give on everything.
  2. First of all, contrast ratio means nothing. ignore it. get something with a high color output and resolution (720 - 1080p) The best tv on the market is the sony bravia, just buy that
  3. the crystal in the the LCD panel does make a huge difference. sony uses a system called GEMP which makes the pixel smaller therefore, make the image cleaner. olevia is a low end company. don't buy it. 1080p and 720p is a totally different ballgame.
  4. I have a Sony 42" LCD Full HDTV because it gives good resolution in HD and Digital programming. It's the Grand Wega or Bravia Engine that does that, because those are interface engines.
