Should I purchase a warranty on a new LCD TV?
Warranty is $99.00 for 3 years. Model is Samsung 40" LCD, LN-40A630, top rated by Consumer Reports for that size LCD TV

- Probably not, and if it is from Best Buy, my answer becomes "definitely no" - they are terrible to deal with. Consider the following: 1. Your TV already likely has a 1 year manufacturers warranty. Electronics tend to follow the "Bathtub Curb" or "Infant Mortality Curve" - that is, if it is going to break, statistically it will happen either in the first year or in the last year (say 10 years from now). 2. The rate TV prices are falling, you will probably be able to get a new 40" TV (wether it is LCD, Laser or some other new technology) for $200-$300 in 2-3 years. 3. If you are still considering it, make sure you read the fine print on the warranty.
- It all depends on how lucky you feel... Do you wanna pay $99 to replace your tv in three years or do you want to pay full price for a new one in three years or do you think your tv will last 10 years. Hope I helped but I'm sure I confused you instead. I'd personally get the warranty and always have. In my case Ive never had a problem though but it still seems worth it to me!
- no
- The answer is probably no. You can expect crappy service whether it's the warranty from samsung or being covered by bestbuy or any other store. They make big promises when you buy the extended warranty, but watch what happens you come to them with a problem. I've read horror story after horror story. I'm not saying that it goes bad every time, but customer satisfaction seems to be low. Another thing to think about, extended warranties are stacked in favor of the house (the electronics store that sold it to you) like a casino. They win because most TVs do last more than the three years that they cover you. Plus, anything happens in the first year, they are off the hook as the maker has to cover it. So in general I'm against warranties, I don't purchase them or recommend them. As stated by another person, that same or similar TV in a year or three years will be much cheaper. So here's the bottom line on buying or not buying. If your TV should fail right after the samsung warranty is expired, can you afford to replace the TV on the spot? If a similar TV is about say 800 in 18 months, and you know for a fact you won't have that money, then spring for the 99 dollar extended and hope they treat you good if your TV fails. If you can afford to replace it down the road skip it. All the money you save on NOT buying warranties on all the gadgets you buy will pay for that new TV and you won't be giving away money to the electronics stores that make huge profits off these extended warranties. Good luck
