LCD TV Rating

Is it possible to use 220V @50Hz, LCD TV in the Philippines? PI/USA is rated @60hz.. is it still safe to use?

Philippines and USA is rated @60hz.. is it still safe to use? I have a HDTV LCD Samsung from England, I want to move to the Philippines and want to know if it's ok to use there.. yes it has the same 220v rating BUT its rated @50Hz, while the Philippines is rated @60Hz... Converters do not change the frequencies.... and since the tv is already at 220V, I won't be using one... it's the frequency that is bugging me right now... I have read microwaves, clocks or anything with motors are not compatible at different frequencies but I'd like to know if I would have any problems running a 46" LCD TV rated @50Hz or would it get slowly damaged/life shortened or run strangely in any way... Would really appreciate any insight... thanks Thanks everyone for the info. Now that the power is out of the way.... Just an update. According to my LCD TV it accepts signals PAL/SECAM/NTSC4.43 under color system via the store channels....I'm still not sure if this is multi-system or it just means via input like dvd players...I'm still guessing the tuner itself is only pal... Does that mean however it can accept cable-tv? I won't be using the regular air waves antenna thing. Since its an LCD, the plug is not important as it uses the standard PC plug where you can exchange it for different countries, I already have a US plug for it.

  1. possible yes! 50-60 hrtz can be use on a220 volts but be sure it's 220 volts otherwise.........kabooooom!
  2. Yes, But make sure you are using a surge protector. The elcetricity isn't very stable in the Philippines and there are often brown outs, You'd want to protect all your devices from sudden shut downs and power back ups.
  3. Possible, yes. Safe, yes. Practical, no. The Phillipines, full of confusing standards. The plug types that are used there consist of the U.S. 2-pronged bladed type, as well as the U.S. 3-prong safety plug, AND the U.K. 2-pronged rounded type. So, depending on your apartment, you MAY need a plug adapter. You will NOT need a voltage adapter, though, since it's 220v just like the U.K. Although the TV is rated for 50 Hz, and the Phillipines supplies 60 Hz, it's still not an issue since the TV's power supply will convert the incoming voltage to DC (which is zero Hz) for use inside the set. So, neither voltage nor frequency is a concern. So far, it sounds like a GO, right? The only problem is a little [possible] plug style conversion? But here's the biggest problem you're going to have with your English TV in the Phillipines. The scan rate used in the UK is 625 lines/25 frames, while the scan rate in the Phillipines is 525 lines/30 frames, so it's going to be hard, if not impossible, to get the TV to even synchronize. Like those diagonal jagged lines when you get a scrambled TV channel. Worse, even if you were to get it to synchronize, the color encoding used in England is PAL, while the Phillipines broadcasts in NTSC. Without a common color standard, at best your TV will be displaying in black and white.
