What's the best budget LCD HD 32inch television to buy in the UK? I'm looking into buying a HD LCD television and would like it to be 32 inches. Preferably near the £400 mark and a brand that is reliable. Built in Freeview would be a bonus and wouldn't mind paying a bit more so that it has it. I am going to buy a new television next year and I have a pretty high budget although I'd rather not blow it all on a television. I have a few questions that I need answered to help me in my decision of what to buy. First of all what is the difference between an LCD television and a Plasma Television? Also why are Plasma Televisions generally more expensive? The second question is what is the benefit of buying a 100Hz television? And again why are TV's with 100Hz so much more expensive? I have always believed that LCD/LEDs are the best televisions for gaming. Recently though I have been reading about something called "input lag". How do i set my resolution to HD (red for more info)? So i have a laptop and i want to stream picture from laptop to my HD LCD television. When i connect those 2 together, the laptop automatically gives resolution 1024 x 768 to television but i want HD resolution which is 1280 x 720. I've been looking into getting a television for my bedroom for watching DVD's and such, but all of the televisions that I've seen are very expensive. Best flat screen HD television? I want to buy an awesome new flat screen TV. Price range $400-$1,000. I want something 40+ inches. Don't play video games. Just watch a lot of TV and movies. I want the picture quality to look really good, this is very important to me. I watch TV in the light and the dark, usually with the lights dimmed. Something with good sound (surround sound) would be nice. I want the closest thing to an at home theater experience, without buying all the extra theater system speaker kits or Blu ray player (this may come later, but one purchase at a time). I have a question on getting the best VIDEO signal possible to my HD TV. Audio quality is of no concern? I have a Tivo HD DVR hooked up to a Samsung 46” LCD HD TV via HDMI and the picture is WOW!!! I recently purchased a Series 2 Tivo DVR, ONLY because it has a lifetime (full service) Tivo subscription. This Series 2 Tivo is hooked up to a Vizio 37” HD TV, but the Tivo will NOT record/display in HD. I am NOT remotely concerned about audio quality of the signal; my ONLY concern is in getting the very best VIDEO signal from the Series 2 Tivo to the Vizio LCD TV. The Series 2 Tivo does NOT have any HDMI (“out”) connection, nor does it have a component connection. It relies on S-Video out, OR composite RCA jacks (Yellow/ Red/White) to transfer video/audio to the television. The Vizio 37” HD TV does have (2) HDMI connections. QUESTION – Will an HDMI A/V receiver take the S-video, or composite RCA analog signal from my Tivo, and upconvert the (analog) VIDEO signal to an HD DIGITAL VIDEO signal via HDMI?

Why is my LCD HD Television have a fuzzy picture? I bought a new lcd television from Costco and i'm sure its an HD television. However at now that i'm at school in a dorm room with limited cable i don't think the screen is as clear as my regular tube non HD tv at home. A friend of mine just order a new RV, and it is said to have a LCD-HD television set in it. I assume that the? D in LCD stands for digital. If the set will pick up digital signals, does this mean that it will pick up TV signals after June when TV as we know it now will be no more? I was told that in order to get HD a person would have to be connected to cable system, which would not be possible in an RV. All my friend wants is to have a picture on the screen when he turns on the set in his new RV. Will he have a picture?
Question for video experts on the new HD LCD & Plasma TVs? This may sound like a dumb question but I honestly don't understand something about the new large HD televisions (LCD and Plasma's). They are all "wide screen" format now (versus the old square tube TVs) and I believe the aspect ratio is 16:9. I always read this would allow us to watch movies in the same aspect ration as they are shot (widescreen) so that you don't have those 'black borders' at the top and bottom of you screen like we would watching a widescreen movie on the old square tube TVs. OK, so now we finally bought the HD wide screen LCD tv, and watch movies (on the DVD player). They are widescreen format. So I am thinking the entire screen area will be full, top to bottom, on the new LCD widescreen TV. But still, I have a small area of black space at the top and bottom of the screen. Of course you can change the aspect ratio on the TV and do a "zoom" to fill in the entire screen area, but then you lose some of the video area off on the sides. Why does all this happen? I mean, my question is, if the new HD big-screen TV's are built to this "wide screen" format now (wider than they are tall) - How come the films we watch don't match that aspect ratio perfectly - why are we still getting small strips of black area at the top/bottom of the new TVs? I thought that would be a thing of the past. Thanks for explaining, I am not a video/TV expert. Thanks R.T. for the good answer - that does make sense. Incidently just a side comment, its interesting that when we watch normal broadcast channels on Cable with these 16:9 TVs, the entire screen is filled up (channels like Travel, Food network, News channels, Weather, etc). So they must use cameras that match the aspect ration of the HD TVs (I guess?). The whole thing can get rather confusing as you said. With all the money we spend on DVDs, Blue-Rays, movies, and players for them, you would think it would have finally been standardized to one consistent full 16:9 content, rather than having all these slightly different sizes. You spend thousands of dollars on the newest latest equipment, only to see the infamous old "black borders" at the top/bottom of the screen still, and it makes you want to pull your Hair Out !! (LOL..) Thanks for the answer. All great answers folks, thanks very much I understand now. I wanted to choose all 3 as the best answer but unfortunately could only pick on. HD/LCD television? Is it worth getting a HD LCD/ OR JUST LCD TV ?
